RGC/ORED Small Grant Program


Overview

The Research Grants Committee (RGC) reviews proposals for research grants each year from UA faculty who are:

  • Full-time tenured
  • Tenured track
  • Clinical
  • Clinical track

These faculty receive funding from the Office for Research and Economic Development (ORED). Proposals for FY 2019 were due September 21, 2018, with a start date of January 1, 2019.

2020 Expected proposal due date: August or September 2019 (TBA on ResearchNews listserv).

ORED funds a maximum of $6,000 per project for applications submitted to the Small Grant Program, previously known as the RGC Level 1 Program.

The previously existing Level 2 – Collaborative Project is now a separate program that is being currently re-evaluated.

The Level 3 – Equipment Program is no longer part of the ORED Internal Funding Programs. Faculty interested in internal funding for equipment should work with their ADR to submit a formal request.

Funding Areas

There are three RGC Funding Areas:

  1. Area A- Physical and Biological Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering
  2. Area B- Social and Behavioral Sciences
  3. Area C- Arts and Humanities

Proposals submitted by Culverhouse College of Business Faculty are generally considered under Area B.

The Culverhouse College of Business places two representatives on the RGC. These members serve staggered three-year terms. The College’s two representatives are:

  • Volodymyr Melnykov (2016-17 to 2018-19)
  • Thomas English (2018-19 to 2020-21)
